If you think that jogging along the footpath or exercising in the open air or park keep you healthy, you might be wrong even if don’t stay in a region with vehicles and factories belching out thick black smoke. That diluted diesel exhaust, which you apparent can’t feel, can hurt your heart seriously, even on a brief exposure.
The invisible microscopic soot particles can considerably reduce a key anti-clotting substance in the blood leading to serious consequences!
A little exposure to such air pollution can even worsen exercise-induced ischemia, or may lead to an insufficient flow of blood and oxygen to the heart - and the consequences? A heart attack or even death!
Dr. Abraham Sanders, a lung specialist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital said,
We now have evidence that being exposed to diesel fuel during exercise will cause cardiac ischemia and that if you have heart disease, it can only make things worse.
Although, several previous studies have revealed the link between short-term and long-term air pollution exposure, but the new study shows how air pollution harms people - i.e. what pollution is doing in our body that may help in finding remedies to such problems.
So doctors and, more importantly, patients be aware! - Even those little bits of pollution can cause heart attack and even death!
