stroke_9Raising worries for the southerners, a new study has revealed that strokes — the third-leading cause of deaths in the U.S. — are found to be most common in Mississippi and other Southern states. Stroke is the major culprit behind disability in the United States, which kills more than 160,000 people in a year, with only heart disease and cancer killing more.

But, people living in Connecticut may relax knowing that least stroke cases are found there. The disease’s prevalence is found to range from 1.5 percent in Connecticut to 4.3 percent in Mississippi, according to the report.

If you are privileged enough to have a better education or a white by birth, you may have a lesser tendency to risk stroke. It is black people, who are nearly twice as likely as whites to suffer a stroke! — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report says.

With 2.3 percent whites found to suffer from strokes, blacks’ sufferers are found to be comparatively far higher to 4 percent. American Indians and Alaska Natives are found to suffer more from highest stroke prevalence, which is at 6 percent, with Asian Americans suffering at a low rate at 1.6 percent.

So, if you are a black, and stay in the southern part of the U.S., adapt a lifestyle that lessens stroke risk.
